How Two Founders Built SalaryChecker to Solve the Salary Mismatch Problem
BeCandid was founded by two professionals from very different worlds - Alexia, an experienced HR and Talent Acquisition expert, and Jeremy, a Senior Software Security Engineer.
What brought them together was a shared frustration with how poorly salary expectations are handled in the hiring process.
For Alexia, it was a daily battle when being a recruiter. She repeatedly witnessed mismatched salary expectations derailing recruitment efforts. Candidates often hesitated to share their true salary expectations, worried about pricing themselves out or being undervalued. Similarly, companies held back on disclosing budgets, fearing they might overpay or scare away top talent. The result? Prolonged hiring cycles, wasted resources
and missed opportunities.
Jeremy's perspective came from his experience in secure communication. He saw how cryptography principles could be used to address sensitive workplace conversations, like salary discussions. He realized that if candidates, and companies, had a safe, confidential way to share expectations early, it could prevent misunderstandings and streamline the hiring process.
Over countless conversations, Alexia and Jeremy found themselves circling back to one idea: What if salary discussions didn't have to be so complicated and awkward? What if confidentiality could unlock clarity?
That's when they decided to create Salary Checker, BeCandid's first product. By providing a secure platform where candidates and recruiters can confidentially share their salary expectations and budgets, SalaryChecker ensures that both parties are aligned from the very beginning. This eliminates the typical back-and-forth, saving time and ensuring smoother, faster hiring decisions.
Together, Alexia and Jeremy combined their expertise in Talent Acquisition and secure technology to create a solution that empowers both candidates and employers. BeCandid was born from their belief that salary clarity from the start could remove the friction from hiring and create a more efficient, transparent recruitment process for everyone involved.
